We stayed at the Lyf, an “affordable” modern hotel inside the Funan SG (a mall). It was very simple and felt more like a hostel with it’s co-living vibes and activities. At around $100 a night, it was one of the cheapest places we could find in Singapore.
You can also opt for a cheaper room that does not have a window. The rooms were SMALL, but perfectly sized for a short stay.
Our first stop was the Chinatown Hawker stall for some cheap eats and fresh juice.
Next stop, but of course, another Hawker stall. This one was called Maxwell. More food!
The beautiful Buddha Tooth Relic Temple was located in the Chinatown district of Singapore. Due to COVID, only the main areas were open to the public and you had to have your temperature taken before entering (this was the case at many places in Singapore).
So we could make room for more food, we kept on walking. Running into murals along the way.
I have been wanting to go to the Gardens by the Bay for as long as I can remember (well, at least since they opened back in 2012). This giant nature park will keep you busy for quite some time and is FREE (if you do not add on any paid attractions).
I would definitely suggest coming here at night. Seeing everything all lit up is part of the magic.
Meanwhile, the next morning at our Airbnb we ventured to the rooftop. There we found a pretty well established garden (with a view)!
For brunch we went to the Tiong Bahru Market for some carrot cake (aka Chai tow kway) which is stir fried cubes of radish.
More murals….
After brunch we took an uber to the Singapore Botanic Gardens - a 161 year old topical garden that is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is well worth the drive!
You can walk around for free, but to see the Orchid gardens there is a fee of about $5 (absolutely worth it).
The lush garden vibes continue at the airport in Singapore!
